Support & Services

Aims & Mission

Nutritious Minds Trust (NMT) was established to provide psychological, nutritional and educational support and services to low-income families and to those struggling with their brain-health (/mental-health).
The aim of the trust is to advocate for all types of learning and behaviour differences and empower young people to reach their highest potential through psychological, educational, nutritional support and community projects focused on the creative arts, music, nutrition and physical activity (fitness).

NMT operates by supporting families who have children, teenagers and young people (aged 5-25 years) with neurodevelopmental conditions by providing a local support group meeting once a month to discuss and problem-solve current difficulties as well as share valuable information and develop a community.

It aims to work with other organizations including schools and after-school clubs to empower children and young people by developing workshops and educational programmes that allow young people to develop through creative activities by giving free and/or affordable access on topics related to e.g., the creative arts, music, drama, nutritional sciences and/or fitness workshops. These activities and workshops will be carefully designed to help the young person feel that they belong, enhance their unique creative potential and feel inspired to develop these newly acquired skills further in their future. The workshops aim to build self-confidence, improve social and communication skills, reduce anger and antisocial behaviours and critically provide opportunities which will positively contribute to their personal life skills while alleviating them from the issues caused by adversity and hardship. NMT aims to build a vibrant, diverse and connected community, engaging young people and their families.

NMT aims to eventually recruit mentors and coaches to help build mentoring relationships with young people who are struggling (i.e., may have developed a school phobia, are at risk of youth offending, are unemployed, have a neurodevelopmental condition and/or mental health struggle) to build self-esteem, self-worth and confidence to pursue their purpose in life, reengage in society and assist with education, training and employment opportunities.

NMT provides evaluation and diagnostic services from our professional network of qualified clinical psychologists as well as child and adolescent psychiatrists free-of-charge or at a significant reduction to low-income families. This will help to bridge the gap between the extraordinarily long wait lists (in some cases up to 2 years) for an assessment and diagnosis of ADHD, Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Dyslexia, Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) or similar neurodevelopmental condition with the NHS, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) and private clinics which are often unaffordable for many families and enable access to much needed support services.

NMT will provide a professional liaison service between parents and schools to help reduce permanent exclusions. NMT helps parents apply for Educational, Health and Care Needs Assessments (previously statutory assessments) and supports parents secure Education, Health and Care plans for their child with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
NMT will work with families to help provide suitable educational provisions for their child with neurodiversity.
NMT helps prepare psychological reports for young (neurodivergent) people facing court hearings, documenting symptoms in relation to often undiagnosed neurodevelopmental conditions (ADHD/ASD) and mental health conditions (Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Major Depressive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Childhood trauma and so on) which may feature as a mitigating circumstance and pre-sentence report.

NMT aims to develop community outreach projects to help support vulnerable children at risk of educational failure to nurture interests and talents in the creative arts, music and drama.

NMT currently organizes community events and workshops on different and current aspects of brain-health (/mental-health) incorporating nutrition, fitness and mental wellness. These events also provide a motivational platform for individuals to talk about their collective experiences living with diagnostic labels as well as sharing inspiration and the tools which enabled them to overcome tumultuous obstacles in their lives.
NMT shares valuable (free) information and resources across social media platforms, the most active of which is on Instagram, please see https://www.instagram.com/nutritious_minds

Education & Training
NMT aims to advocate for nutritional sciences and education on food and food production. NMT aims to provide science-based talks on the role of nutrition and brain-health in schools, universities and prisons. It has recently teamed up with NutriTank (please visit: https://www.nutritank.com) to provide training on nutritional medicine to medical students.
